The Human Body
Hi all!
This week 4J has begun exploring our new science topic - The Human Body.
We began our investigations by measuring different parts of our body and finding patterns in the way our body is formed. Did you know that most people's arm span is the same or close to the same as their height? Do you know any other cool patterns in the way our body is built?
In 4J we were wondering if our blogging friends know any cool human body facts? Maybe our Quadblogging friends, parents and friends can share any questions about the body they have so we can explore them in our unit? Feel free to comment them below and we will investigate them for you!
Check out some pictures of us measuring the different parts of our bodies.
Bye :)

Hello Miss Gale, Miss Joliffe, Mr Smith, Miss John and Year 3.
We are very excited to be sharing our blogs together. We are interested to hear about all the work you are doing in class. Particularly your study on the Romans and we would like to know how you are going on it. Something we would also like to know that if you wear a school uniform? We wear three school uniforms - a summer, winter and sports. We are also interested in your knowledge about state parks. That is what we are studying and we would like to know what you know about them. Thank you very much Year Three for sharing what you are doing in class. We are looking forward to sharing our blogs together.

G'day Norfolk
Gday Norfolk,
As you know 4J has undertaken a Quadblogging Adventure. For the week of the 12th of May we will be exploring the West Earlham Junior School Blog. They are a Year 4 class the same as ours.
You can check out their class blog here:
Find out more about their school here:
And even check out their school on Google Maps here:
To all the students at WEJS we are so excited to meet you. Some of our students have written you a letter below:
Hello Class 4JB of West Earlham Junior School in Norfolk. We’re blogging from what was once called the lucky country and conditions are good. Can you guess where? Yes! Sydney Australia. From checking out your blog we know you love books and you do book reviews, so we have a couple of suggestions for you for books to read. Our main suggestion is 'Because of Winn Dixie' which we have been reading as a class. Why doesn't someone in your class read it and let us know what you think?
We can't wait to blog with WEJS - see you in Cyberspace!
Quadblogging - what is that?!
Quadblogging - what is that I hear you ask. Well, our 4J classroom has signed up for a collaborative adventure called Quadblogging during the months of May and June. We are so excited to share the 4J blog and all our learning in Australia with three class blogs from Norfolk, New Jersey and London. For an entire week in May or June, each classroom will take turns as the spotlight blog while the other three view the blogposts and leave comments.
Firstly, we would like to introduce to you our new friends. Yesterday our students worked in collaborative groups to create their own blog post with information about each of the schools - please use these as a jumping off point. The link to each blog and their schools website will be posted in the student created posts. Students are welcome to explore the blogs with their parents and I am planning many opportunities for us to in the classroom as well. We would love our new blogging friends to answer some of the questions we had about your schools in a comment as we can't wait to learn more about your classrooms.
Here is some photos from our group work time as we research, drafted and typed our blog posts about each Quadblogging school. 4J is super excited about this process and we hope you are too!

Narrative Writing
This term 4J have been learning how to create more engaging pieces of narrative writing.
We have been reminded that each narrative needs to include a/an:
- Orientation: introduce the characters and describe the setting
- Complication: introduce a situation that changes the normal run of events and causes a problem for one or more of the characters
- Resolution: resolve the problem so things are back to normal even if changes have occurred
- Coda: show clearly how the character has changed and what has been learnt.
We have thought about how a 'sizzling start' through the use of sound effects, dialogue or humour can more effectively engage the reader and draw them into our story.
Some of our students have been working with Mrs Clark to create, edit and publish their own narratives. Below are two videos of our students reading their narrative aloud to peers during Literacy Group rotations. Please enjoy and comment below to encourage AM and SB in their hard work.
Well done girls!
